Dirtbags in Belmont Shore brag how dog-friendly their neighborhood is and now have the HotSpot to really bark it up...uh, back it up. Dogz Bar and Grill marks its territory at the spot of then popular Belmont Station with a food and drink kennel shared by humans and Man's best friend. On any sunny day, it's typical to find mixed breeds, golden labs, German Sheppard puppies and rescued dogs on leashes within these cartoon colorful walls. Snoopy-style illustrations were playfully drawn for Instagram shots of pet owners posing in front of an airbrushed "dog house," arms raised begging and tongue wagging. Can you say profile picture? The chow at Dogz really raises the expectations of one of the most beloved comfort foods, hot dogs, to higher standards...or should we say to a higher "Pedigree?" Regional sausages like Polish, Portuguese, Italian or the major classy "beer-boiled" are cooked to order. Specialty dogs include the LA favorite "Bacon-wrapped," while 49ers with roots in the Midwest slobber for the authentic "Chicago Dog." With mustard, relish, onions, tomato, a pickle slice all on a poppy seed bun, this Windy City dog was as they say in Illinois, "dragged through the garden." For the non-weenie-lover, a steak can be brought from home (yes, home!) and cooked by the chefs with cheap sides to pair like sweet potato tots. All that dog walking and dog eating works up a thirst, thank Dog, uh, God for the beer kept obediently below 29 degrees as proudly presented via digital meter in a life-size red and yellow liquor bottle "pet house." Note: Ketchup on a "Chicago Dog," is a major no-no!
