| Here’s two common viewpoints about Seven Grand: 1) PETA members will have a fit over the hordes of taxidermied wildlife (bucks, boars, fabled antlered bunnies) and 2) This is that type of whiskey bar Jim Morrison praises in The Doors’ pub ballad “Alabama Song.” The 213 group (Broadway Bar, Golden Gopher) include Seven Grand in their repertoire of Downtown revival. As if a plaid-decorated mountain cabin was misplaced deep in the city (think Bigfoot Lodge a few miles north), Seven Grand’s racks of over 200 Irish, Bourbon, and Scotch whiskeys easily warm up those rare chilly nights. Regulars spring for spirits “on the rocks” with premium ice cubes used for uninterrupted flavor. Liquor straight up isn’t for everyone, but specially crafted cocktails sure are and so are the taps of Stella Artois, Anchor Porter and Boddingtons Pub Ale. Outdoors, the smoking catwalk’s second story view is quite obstructed by a plain boring building but there’s too much to be seen and had indoors anyway. Rows and rows of Jim Beam bottles, chirping guitar solos from a jukebox and a pathway highlighting available cigars for an all natural tobacco smoke. The name Seven Grand? The bar sits on the block of 7th and Grand; no GPS needed here. (Note: Must be 21+ and have a valid ID) |
