Orale carnal y ruca, in East LA pride was brought to La Raza from Chicanos like Edward James Olmos and "The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya. Now at the Eastside Luv Wine Bar Y Queso in Boyle Heights, everyone from the James Dean wannabes, cool Downtown cats, and Cahuenga hipsters can celebrate the passion and art of the Mexican-American East Los culture comprende? Resembling a Latin bordello, the only thing missing from within these red walls and black-tiled ceiling is a Salma Hayek snake dance ritual; so Eastside Luv presents their own midnight recital. Aztec goddesses to tattooed “cholitas” entertain patrons with pole-dancing and belly frolics on top of a burgundy countertop while aged wines and slices of cheese are served from the elegantly morbid bar trench below. The amor in Eastside Luv comes in many forms such as the Chicano renderings displayed from talented artists that use signature brushing, contrasting colors & shapes, and personal life experience to show an often forgotten perspective of LA. Eerie chandeliers, vast wine rack, vintage registers, Catholic candles in honor of the “Dia De Los Muertos” holiday, and a mural of comic Hispanic stereotypes set up an indie-Goth ambiance for a live mariachi musical medley saluted by raised glasses of merlot and Bud Lights. La Revolucion for unity in Los Angeles battles on at Eastside Luv where despite economic differences, education levels, and music preferences, the next generation of Angelinos from all around can come together in a living-dead setting as hauntingly beautiful as a Frida Kahlo self-portrait.
