| "Go West, young man." Heeding the advice of newspaper pioneer Horace Greeley (1811-1872) on westward expansion, the 1933 Group (Saints & Sinners, Bigfoot Lodge) treks onward to Culver City territory. Wolverines, rams, owls and bucks, no this isn't a mascot list of Trojan-defeated teams, just a few critter trophies provided by Mother Nature. Like its fellow cabins in San Francisco and Atwater Village, elements taken from the great outdoors make up the look and feel of Bigfoot West indoors. Trees from the hills of Big Bear - naturally fallen, not chopped down - make for crafty bar countertops. Indian artifacts and tools used by frontiersmen of the Northwest have been encased for viewing with a faux bird sanctuary at entrance and mammoth totem pole corner headpiece. Drinks popular at the other Bigfoot huts made the migration including the winter-friendly "Toasted Marshmallow" with vanilla and butterscotch flavor and hair-raising Wild Turkey & ginger brandy potent "Sasquatch." Bigfoot West's novelty of the outdoors spills in from fake curbside grass and "tree stump" bar overhang, to fireplace replica and log walling salvaged from the film set of "Yes Man." Now who says LA is a phony town?! |
