"YOU ARE NOT A ROCKSTAR UNTIL YOU'VE PLAYED THE ROXY!" This statement needs to be uttered by every aspiring music act during recording sessions and prior to band practice. The Roxy Theatre, or as we call it the "Buckingham Palace of Rock n' Roll," is ornamented with black and white photographs of music royalty who've performed on this sacred plot of the Sunset Strip. From Jack Black's Tenacious D, to Slash and the Prince of Darkness, these photos represent only a miniscule of the top bands who've rocked the Roxy. Beginning in 1973 with Neil Young opening, since, the Roxy has been the site for recorded live albums from Bob Marley and Fullerton's Social Distortion as well as a secret gig from the Foo Fighters to an unsuspecting all ages crowd. Because it is all ages, to be expected are a handful of carefree UCLA girls there to see Kings of Leon who will stage dive from the ravenous encouragement of their male classmates. On The Rox, a hidden upstairs 21 and over bar within the Roxy, is an escape from the main room's chaos - a place commonly frequented by celebrities and billed bands for the night's un-official after party. (NOTE: Pictures shown are from Shwayze's 4/20 show)
