Its timeline is storied. Beginning when director DW Griffith held movie screenings here for his barred film "Birth Of A Nation" in the early century to the cabaret of the '50s that were - and still are - wildly popular leading into the hippie era when the newly named "El Cid" officially changed into a castle-esque flamenco dinner theatre intent to revive Spanish taverns of the past. The most identifying visual could be the steep and winding stairway that delves deep below Sunset and into a breezy staggered urban oasis planted with trees mammoth in size, peaceful gardens and water fountains with angelic paintwork spotted in an expansive outdoor patio chock full of nature’s summer elements. Of course the ultimate goal is to entertain and this is done with El Cid's famous flamenco spectacle where early diners can behold colorful dance numbers of celebrated Latin styles sangria, fandango, tango, bulerias, and many others during a feast of Spanish food. Following dinner shows are a steady stream of monthly scheduled events that bring a varied 21+ Silver Lake makeup. Sometimes it’s a “Rebel Without A Cause” mob at rockabilly and indie gigs or it can be the brainy population of Weezer fans that take over a round of open mic gong shows and comedy skits that spill into a jam-packed weekend.
